JFK Airport Updates Pick-Up and Drop-Off Options

John F. Kennedy International Airport is advising travelers and drivers that pick-ups and drop-offs may take longer than usual because of ongoing construction at the airport. JFK recommends using public transportation when possible to avoid roadway congestion and delays.

Two Free Waiting Options

JFK Airport provides two free options for drivers who arrive early for passenger pick-up or drop-off.

Free Wait Lot

The on-airport Wait Lot provides a free option for both pick-ups and drop-offs. Travelers can reach all airport terminals through an eight-minute AirTrain ride.

Drivers using the Wait Lot must remain inside their vehicles at all times. The lot is accessible from the Van Wyck Expressway and Belt Parkway near the airport entrance and is closest to Terminals 1 and 4.

For passengers traveling through Terminals 5, 7 and 8, JFK recommends using the East Cell Phone Lot.

East Cell Phone Lot

The free East Cell Phone Lot is another option for drivers waiting to pick up passengers. The lot is located near the JFK Expressway and is less than five minutes from all terminals.

It is the closest waiting lot for access to Terminals 5, 7 and 8. Drivers can follow airport signs or search for “JFK Cell Phone Lot” in their GPS.

Terminal Curbside Rules

Parking is not permitted in front of or next to any JFK terminal. Terminal curbside areas are reserved exclusively for active passenger pick-ups and drop-offs.

Vehicles left unattended at terminal curbsides may be towed at the owner's expense.

AirTrain Connections

The JFK AirTrain connects passengers with the airport terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttle area, rental car center and public transportation.

The free AirTrain connection between the Wait Lot and airport terminals provides an alternative to navigating congested terminal roadways during construction.
