Major Service Changes on 1, 2 and 3 Lines

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is implementing major service changes on the 1, 2 and 3 subway lines during July and August 2026 while crews replace tracks and carry out additional infrastructure work across Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx.

The changes are scheduled from July 20 through August 21, with different service adjustments taking place on weekends and weeknights.

Track Replacement and Infrastructure Work

Crews are replacing tracks north of Chambers St., including switches that allow trains to move between local and express tracks.

The MTA is also using the service suspensions to complete structural maintenance, inspections, and electrical and mechanical work, reducing the need for future service disruptions.

Weekend Service Changes

From July 24 through August 16, service changes will take place every weekend from 11:30 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

The 1, 2 and 3 lines will experience service disruptions, including suspensions and changes between Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Some trains will operate on modified routes, while free shuttle buses and nearby subway services will provide alternatives for affected passengers.

The MTA is also advising passengers to use alternative subway lines and shuttle buses for travel between affected stations.

Weeknight Service Changes

Additional changes will occur on weeknights during several periods in July and August.

From August 3–7 and August 10–14, selected trains will operate in two sections from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., with passengers required to transfer at Chambers St. Service will operate between Wakefield-241 St and South Ferry and between Chambers St and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College, with trains running every 24 minutes on the latter segment.

From August 17–21, further overnight service changes will affect portions of the 1, 2 and 3 lines, including service between 14 St and South Ferry and between 34 St-Penn Station and Brooklyn.

Alternative Transportation

The MTA is providing alternative travel options during the construction period, including nearby subway stations, connecting subway lines and free shuttle buses between Harlem-148 St and 135 St.

Passengers are advised to check planned service changes and service status before traveling and to allow additional time for their journeys.
